President Bola Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike on the infrastructural development in the Federal Capital Territory.
President Tinubu gave the commendation on Thursday at the commissioning of the Interchange at Arterial Road N16 – Ring Road 11 Intersection linking Jahi District to Gwarinpa District in the FCT.
Tinubu who was represented at the occasion by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio said infrastructure is the foundation of prosperity and commended Wike and his team at the FCT for delivering on the Renewed Hope Agenda of his administration.
A statement by the Special Assistant on Media/Communication to the President of the Senate, Anietie Ekong quoted the President as saying: “Let me commend the indefatigable Honourable Minister of the FCT, Barrister Nyesom Wike, CON. Wike, you are delivering. You took my charge to “make Abuja work” and you are executing it well.
“From roads to bridges, from city centre to satellite towns, you are domesticating Renewed Hope across the FCT. Nigerians can see it. Residents feel it in their daily lives. Well done,” he said.
President Tinubu recalled the sad experience of commuters on the road before it was built. “This intersection used to choke. Gridlock stretched from Maitama to Gishiri, from Jahi to Gwarimpa. Hours were lost. Fuel was wasted. Businesses delayed. Today that story ends.
“This interchange opens up critical districts of the FCT and connects them smoothly to the rest of the Territory. Goods will now move faster. Workers will get home earlier. Students will get to class on time. Security will improve because criminals thrive where traffic stands still,” he said.
The President thanked the people of Jahi, Gwarimpa and Katampe and adjoining communities for enduring the diversions while the construction work was being carried out. He asked them to take ownership of the project and protect the amenities from vandalism.
Earlier the FCT Minister recalled that the contract for the construction of the Interchange was awarded by the previous administration two days before their exit.
He said following presidential directives to prioritize and complete inherited, high-impact projects, it was fast-tracked to full operational completion for the benefit of the people.
