China reports 31 new COVID-19 cases in 2 days, including 7 in Beijing

There may be another global upsurge of the coronavirus as China, where the disease started from, recorded 31 new cases in two days, but with no new deaths.

According to a report by Reuters today (Tuesday), the health authority, the National Health Commission, claimed that 19 new coronavirus cases were reported in China mainland for June 29, up from 12 a day earlier.

Mainland China, as at June 29, had a total of 83,531 confirmed coronavirus cases, while the death toll stood at 4,634.

Report had it that a member of the medical team dressed in PPE made gestures to people lining up to receive nucleic acid tests at a temporary testing site after a new outbreak of COVID-19) in Beijing, today.

The health authority declared that seven of the new infections were found in Beijing on Sunday, even as the nation’s capital city was battling a fresh outbreak.

Mainland China was said to have reported four new asymptomatic patients who tested positive for COVID-19 but showed no clinical symptoms such as a fever, down from six a day earlier.

Beijing has been carrying out mass testing for COVID-19 since it reported its first case in the latest outbreak on June 11 and the new infections were linked to Beijing’s sprawling Xinfadi wholesale food centre.

According to a report by the state broadcaster, CCTV, the State Post Bureau, which oversees the country’s postal service, said that as of June 27, 104,807 workers from major delivery firms in the city had been tested but no positive results were found.
