Guinea dumps Nigeria out of U17 AFCON finals

Golden Eaglets crash out of U17 AFCON semifinal to Guinea on penalties

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will not play in Sunday’s U17 AFCON Final after they lost 10-9 to Guinea in a penalty shootout after both teams failed to score in regulation time.

Udoko David lost Nigeria’s kick in sudden death to pave the way for Guinea to play their first final after they lost out in the semifinals in 2015 and 2017.

The bigger-looking Guinea played on the front foot for most of this West African Derby, but Nigeria were dangerous when they counter attacked.

It was a physical contest that saw Guinea get five players booked.

Hard-working Eaglets striker Wisdom Ubani had several chances to put this game to bed including one when the Guinea goalkeeper saved off his feet.

Guinea will now await the winners of the second semifinal between Angola and Cameroon later today to decide the African champions at this level.

Nigeria will play the losers’ final on Saturday.
