Dont release LG allocations to Kogi, group urges FG

An appeal has gone to the Federal Government not to release the month of June local government allocation to Kogi State.

The Executive Director Center for Human Rights and Conflict Resolution, Comrade Idris Miliki made the appeal on Tuesday during a One day quarterly review meeting for Media and CSOs on Anti-Corruption, Transparency and Accountability in Elections in conjunction with Yar’Adua Foundation in Kogi State.

He noted that in the last three years of the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello he has refused to conduct local government elections despite the huge sums of money collected from the federal government.

He stressed that the state assembly should be held responsible for the non conduct of local government election in the state

Comrade Miliki added that the tenure of the adminiatrators put in place by the governor ended on 29th of March this year but sadly, the governor has continued to practise illegality within illegality in the state.

Miliki who described the administration of Governor Yahaya Bello as the most corrupt and fraudulent for not conducting local government election noted any transaction between the governor and the adminiatrators is illegal.

“As am speaking now the state government have not put in place State Independent Electoral Commission even they don’t have Chairman.

” In Kogi state no local government council received less than N3 billion in the last three years. The governor is operating illegality in the state, he must conduct local government council election. What ever they are doing today is illegal” he stated.

He also lamented that during that last election in the state, electoral process were disrupted by political parties and their supporters while security personnel compromise and display lack of professionalism in many instances.

He noted that fake political parties observers were noticed contrary to the provision of Electoral Act and rules and guidelines as provided by INEC.

“Political parties engaged in impunity and vote buying, fake security men were noticed, this is not good for our democracy” he said.
