INEC FAILS TO PRODUCE WITNESSES AGAINT AKPABIO

The Lead Counsel to the Third Respondent, INEC, on Saturday failed to present its witnesses, to testify against the Petition instituted against Senator Chris  Ekpenyong and Independent Electoral Commission by Senator Godswill Akpabio.

At the resumed sitting of the Tribunal, today in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, the Lead Counsel for INEC, when called upon to present his witnesses by the Tribunal chairman, Justice Akanbi, publicly declared that the INEC had no witnesses to present again and as such, the third Respondent has decided to close its case.

As a result of this, the Tribunal chairman, Justice Akanbi, then fixed the 8th of August for the adoption of addresses by Counsels.

Senator Akpabio who was recently screened and cleared by the Nigerian Senate as a minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria is challenging the victory of Senator Ekpenyong as declared by the INEC.
