By Jackson Udom
The presidency, over the weekend threw its weights behind the various actions carried out by the Minister Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio, which are intended to bring back sanity into the corruption infested Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
In what appeared like the final nail on the needless sponsored media attacks against the Minister, and calls from some entrenched quarters for his removal, the Senior Special Assistant, to the President on Media, Mallam Garba Shehu, said,” the executive powers of this nation are invested in the President and nobody can exercise that power without the Say So of Mr President, therefore the Ministeris simply carrying out a Presidential directive”.
Accoding to the Presidential aide, “If you’re appointed into an executive position as you have seen in the case of the NDDC, you cannot do all that without the approval of the president. “
Shehu, who stated this while featuring on a Cable TV News Programme, confirmed that ” Akpabio is exercising the authority of Mr President under the Constitution, by his own mandate.”
Speaking further, he stated that, “It is not in doubt whatsoever that Mr President gave approval for the constitution and inauguration of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) for the Commission. Nobody can enter an office of that nature without the President saying go.”
