BAD ROADS: MKPAT ENIN GROUP LAMBASTS EPHRAIM INYANG

•••Passes vote-of-confidence on Assembly Member

Mkpat Enin Conscience, a group of grassroot leaders from the 87 villages of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, has expressed displeasure over the poor state of roads in the area.

The group said the Commissioner for Works, Mr. Ephraim Inyang, instead of rectifying the problem resorted to launching verbal attack against the member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon. Victor Ekwere.

“We read with utter dismay and shock that the Commissioner, would, rather than take the path of honour by taking into consideration observations made by the Lawmaker when he appeared before the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation recently could rather chose an inglorious path of engaging in unguarded utterances that will not solve the clear and present but sad poor state of roads across the state.

“We are further miffed that the Honourable Commissioner, according to the report, is said to have attributed the Lawmaker’s concerns on roads as within his constituency as being “sponsored by evil men.”

“This statement, at any rate, is most uncalled for, unwarranted and absolutely out of point given the realities of the situation at hand. It is unfortunate that Mr. Ephraim Inyang-eyen, rather than stand up to the poor state of roads so mentioned, could, against reason, toe the path of triviality”, parts of the communiqué issued by the group read.

Mkpat Enin Conscience said “the Awa-Asong-Ikot Edim- Ukam road commissioned on May, this year is in a terrible state, also, the 49- Ikot Edeghe- Ikot Ekpuk earlier commissioned by this administration has completely been condemned….”

“While MEC was still having its Emergency meeting today at Ekim, we received the cheerless breaking news that Mr. Hillary Emem Ekefre, a younger brother to Hon Ubong Ekefre, a former Transition Chairman of Mkpat Enin died together with his only son in a motorcycle accident that occurred at a deep pothole along the Awa-Asong-Ikot Edim-Ukam road.
It is the position of MEC that these lapses could have been avoided if Mr. Inyang-eyen had paid apt attention to his responsibilities”, the group added.

They assured Governor Udom Emmanuel of unalloyed support and thanked him for finding sons and daughters of the area worthy for appointments.

“With the foregoing, we wish to clear the air that Victor Ekwere’s concern were not meant to discredit the Governor, but was done with an egalitarian mindset given that he is deeply concerned about the development of the state especially with regards to roads which we view as a vital infrastructure that should not be handled with kid gloves”, they clarified.
