Prof. Sheriff Folarin elected President of ANUDC

At its 7th Council Meeting at the University of Calabar on Saturday, the All-Nigeria Universities Debating Council elected its fourth President and Executive Committee since inception. Professor Sheriff Folarin emerged President of the pan-Nigeria organization and by extension, Chairman of the Council.

Until now, Professor Folarin was Vice-President of the organization between 2017 and November 2019. He had been Southwest Coordinator of ANUDC from 2015-2017. In all the positions he has occupied since 2014, the professor has performed meritoriously and distinguished himself in national service. He acted for the erstwhile president, Dr. Ndubuisi Osuagwu at the 6th and 7th ANUDC championship at the Universities of Ilorin and Calabar respectively, which were quite successful.

Professor Folarin of Covenant University, founded the Covenant literary and debating society in 2014 and built a sustainable debating culture in the institution. He has led the institution to many local and international tournaments and won several laurels in the process. The summit of these accomplishments was the victory of Covenant University at the 6th All-Nigeria Universities Debating Championship at the University of Ilorin, making Covenant the first and only private university ever to have emerged as national champions.

Folarin is a professor of international relations and politics, an accomplished international scholar and the current head of department of political science and international relations at Covenant, which is currently ranked the best and 4th best university in Nigeria and Africa respectively, by the Times Higher Education (THE).

Other elected officers of ANUDC are Dr. A. A. Owoade of University of Ilorin, who is now the Vice-President, Mr. Franklin Ubi David of University of Calabar, who was elected as General Secretary, Prof. Francis Okpiliya of University of Calabar(Financial Secretary), Prof. Mike Otuma (Treasurer) and Mr. Sharp Akosubo (Director of Recruitment).

Also elected are Mr. Eweke Emmanuel (South-South Coordinator), Dr. A. Ovuoh – (South-East Coordinator), Prof. Funmi Olubode-Sawe (South-West Coordinator),
10. Dr. Ternenger Ende – North-Central/East Coordinator, Prof. Willie Obiorzor (Director of Communication)
and Dr. Yewande Ntekim-Rex (Director of Fundraising).
