OPEN LETTER TO AIR COMMODORE IDONGESIT NKANGA (RTD)

By  Rachael Kufreabasi Nse

Sir,

Your recent outburst against the Hon Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Sen Godswill Akpabio is nothing but a cynical act.
Reading those lines from you one would be tempted to believe that you are genuinely concerned about the Niger Delta region. Knowing your antecedents I can not be hoodwinked. How can I? When all the years you’ve spent in public service you have expressed no genuine love for your immediate community which is Nsit Ibom Local Govt Area.

As the Leader of the LGA the duty of nominating party faithfuls for appointments falls on your shoulder and you throw caution to the wind by grabbing every opportunity for your family members.
Your wife Mrs Bimbo Nkanga is serving as a Personal Assistant to Mrs Martha Udom and you recently nominated her to fill the slot of Nsit Ibom in the state executive council meaning that She will be a Commissioner anytime soon.
Also your brother, Mr Samuel Nkanga is presently the Vice Chairman of Nsit Ibom LGA and another brother of yours Mr Amanam Nkanga is the SSA to the Governor on peace and conflict resolution, the only SSA from Nsit Ibom LGA. All of them nominated by you.
It is common knowledge that you’re self centered and always grabbing everything that comes the way of your LGA for yourself.
To you it’s all about you, it’s time you spare me the crocodile tears I refuse to fall for them.

Here’s a soft reminder, you once served under His Excellency Godswill Akpabio when he was the Governor, the same Godswill Akpabio that you are determined and working overtime to vilify today. While in office you accompanied him to commission uncountable live touching projects.
You headed the airport committee and witnessed him build, complete, commission the state airport and landed the first aircraft on that airport.

Not done yet, Governor Godswill Akpabio nominated you as the SureP Chairman in the state.
If he wasn’t an excellent achiever as you want people to believe today why did you willingly serve under him for the eight years he spent in the Hill top mansion?

You were the Director General of his campaigns when he sought for a second term and you took him round the state singing the praises of his ingenious accomplishments in office.
You did that because you were convinced that he was deserving of the second term.
Or were you lying to us then?

Your diatribe in the form of advice to the NASS on the probe of the IMC of NDDC is ridiculous.
Coming from one that was deeply involved in the Diezani/ Dasuki arms deal money to the tune of N450 million.
You feel that demonizing Senator Akpabio will make the Nation forget so soon that you were guest to EFCC in 2016 and subsequently refunded the slush fund in a term of plea bargain. When the roll of the looters of the 2015 PDP Presidential campaign funds will be called up, your name will boldly be written as the only Akwaibomite that was involved in the looting spree.

It’s no longer News that the Hon Minister and the IMC is at home with the probe by the NASS and is willing to cooperate with them in the course of the probe. Quit playing the devil’s advocate role.

On the east west road project you deliberately want to mislead the public but let me remind you that the project was first awarded in 2006 and scheduled for completion by the end of 2010.
Initially the project was under the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, it was transferred to the newly created Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in 2008 with only eight per cent physical progress.

Additional fundings were received between 2012 and 2015 from the African Development Bank AFDB and Subsidy Reinvestment and Development Programme SureP.
Remember you were the State Chairman of SureP, How did you use your office to ensure the speedy completion of that road if you were genuinely concerned about that project?

Recently the responsibility for funding the project has been transferred to the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority
NSIA which is managing the Presidential Infrastructure Development Fund PIDF that was set-up by the President in 2018 to manage key projects of his administration like the East-West Road, Abuja-Kano Highway, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Third Niger Bridge and the Mabilla Power Project.
Mr Uche Orji is the Managing Director of the NSIA.

All these information are in the public sphere but you choose to be mischievous by pushing the blame of the non-completion of the East West road on Senator Akpabio that is barely a year in office as the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs.

Let me put in my two cents, “He who must come to equity must come with clean hands”. Rtd Air Commodore you have no moral justification to accuse another of financial misappropriation.
