Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State may have scaled through the first hurdle on his way to winning a second term of office as the University of Ibadan has confirmed that he truly graduated from the institution.

The governor has been enmeshed in certificate scandals as some of his political opponents people claimed  he didn’t posses the prerequisite Secondary School Certificate required to qualify him for admission into the university.

This was as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Adams Oshiomole, had directed the Screening Committee of the party to confirm the authenticity of the first degree certificate presented by Obaseki, ahead the governorship election in the state.

However, the authorities of the University of Ibadan, on Wednesday, gave the governor a clean bill of health, making it known that he truly graduated from the institution where he studied Classics.

The university, in a statement by its Registrar, Mrs Olubunmi Faluyi, confirmed that Obaseki gained admission to the university in 1976 and graduated in 1979 with a Second Class Honours, Lower Division.
The statement further read: “Records of his admission and graduation are intact in the archives of the university.”
