Group accuses Olopoenia of anti-party activities
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has been called upon to caution a chieftain of the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Rasheed Olopoenia, over alleged sundry anti-party activities.
The note of caution was contained in a statement issued on Friday by an Ibadan-based social-political group, the Oluyole Agenda, which accused the PDP chieftain from Ibadan North East Local Government Area of forming alliance with some known opponents of the party in the state.
The group, in the statement signed by its publicity secretary, Mr, Toyese Adewale, accused Alhaji Olopoenia of playing double-standard, adding that his various anti-party tendencies were capable of destabilising the party structure in the local council.
“Olopoenia is an unrepentant mole and a serial betrayer who has never been consistent with the ideals and dictates of the PDP. His anti-party tendencies started in the build up to the 2015 general election when he collected huge amount of money from two governorship candidates of two different political parties.
“Also, in 2019, he continued his trade in stock with his open declaration of support for the senatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADP), Dr Fola Akinosun, against the candidate of his party, Dr Kola Balogun who eventually won the contest,“ the statement added.
The group expressed concern that Alhaji Olopoenia who is a chieftain of the party in his ocal government area, if given any position of authority, would jeopardise the interest of the party and betray its members who are working day and night for its success.
“One thought that Olopoenia would change his inconsistent style of politics after his adopted candidate in the Oyo South Senatorial District lost woefully in the 2019 general election, but the trend continues.
“He has established relationship with many chieftains of the opposition party. One of the benefits of the relationship is the massive renovation of his residence at Idi Ape by a chieftain of the APC and gubernatorial candidate of the party in the 2019 general elections, Chief Bayo Adelabu,” The group claimed.
The group expressed support for Governor Makinde and advised him to curtail the excesses of Olopoenia in order to prevent him from polarising the party structure in Ibadan North East Local Government Area.
