Obaseki finally walks away from APC
•••APC ‘ll have self to blame-Oladimeji

The marriage between Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State and the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially ended as he announced his resignation after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja, on Tuesday.

Peesreporters gathered that the meeting, held behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa ended on a sour note, thus prompting Obaseki to tell State House correspondents, as he was leaving, that he no longer belong to the APC.

Obaseki had publicly said the outcome of the meeting with the president would determine his next line of action, following his disqualification by the Edo APC Governorship Screening Committee ahead of the governorship election coming up in September.

It is now clear that the only viable option left for the governor, towards realising his second term ambition is the main opposition in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), provided  the party leadership concedes the governorship ticket to him.

Following his disqualification, Obaseki has been consulting with his supporters and chieftains within the APC, as well as PDP governors in the South-South, even as Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has vowed that PDP will win the only state under the control of the APC in the zone.

Reacting to the development, Dr Muyiwa Oladimeji, a prominent politician based in the South-West, said the APC would have itself to blame if it failed to win the governorship election in the state.

He said the decision of Obaseki to quit the party was long overdue as many politicians and non-politicians alike, can see it coming.

Dr Oladimeji, in a short WhatsApp post on Tuesday, wrote: ” It is long overdue; one could see it coming.
“Interestingly, an Oshiomhole Comrade Adam’s, whose main academic certificates are (a) Modern School Leaving Certificate, Trade Centre Certificate, plus two certificates of attendance to Trade Union Courses in former USSR (6 months) an Oxford University (3 months), has the courage to question/query Godwin Obaseki who’s a university (UI) graduate.
“Ultimately the blame must be to APC party elders/leaders and the INEC for the lapses that ever allowed an unqualified character to ascend to such a prominent political position. It is hoped that the right lessons are being learnt by all.”
