One person was killed as five others, including an Inspector of Police, a serving local council councilor, one prince and two married women, were, on Wednesday, abducted by unknown persons in Koma, Jada Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The five persons, whose abduction was reportedly carried out in a night raid, were identified as Inspector Yakubu, Honourable Bulus Geofery who represents Koma Ward, Hammanjidda Hammanjalo, son of the late district head of Koma and the two wives of a hunter in the area, popularly called Malam Hassan.
It was reported that a man, simply identified as Wawu, was killed when the gunmen were taking their victims into the bush after they had been abducted from their respective homes.
According to a source, the abductors had their time and took total control of the area as no one dared to challenge them while the operation.
“They seemed not to be in a hurry as they picked their victims one after the other. They visited the house of Malam Hassan who is one of the popular hunters in the area, probably to kill him, but they didn’t meet him in his house. So they abducted his two wives.
“Right now the area has been overtaken by despondency as people went into a state of trance induced by fear. As I am speaking to you, the kidnappers are yet to establish contact with families of the abductees,” the source added.
The state police spokesperson, DSP Saiman Nguroje, who confirmed the development, said the law enforcement agency was on the trail of the yet-to-be identified abductors.
“The incident actually happened and the police, in conjunction with the local hunters in the area, are currently on the trail of the kidnappers,” he said.
Reports have it that kidnapping for ransom has become a serious security in Adamawa State, becoming a thriving business for the men of the underworld, despite the efforts of the police to curb the menace.
