A pan-Niger Delta development organization, Association of Akwa Cross Indigenes, Nigeria,(AACIN)has thrown it’s weight behind the Presidential initiative to address the development deficit of the Niger Delta through the forensic probe of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NNDC).
The group further saluted President Muhammadu Buhari’s resolve to carry on with the probe despite spurious allegations by detractors.
In a statement co-signed by it’s President,Etubom Samson Samson and Acting Secretary,Akparawa-anwan Gloria Afigo, the group described the attempts to intimidate the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Senator Godswill Akpabio during the recent Federal House of Representatives probe and slanderous communication by rascally individuals as mere ploys to divert attention from the core issues militating against the development of the Nigerian delta region.
AACIN condemned the sacked NDDC Managing Director, Mrs Joy Nunieh for levelling unsubstantiated allegations of corruption and sexual harrasment against the person of the Minister.
It noted that the allegations manifested after the President ordered the forensic audit of the accounts of the NNDC.
The release said in part,”the allegations are deliberately designed to stangulate the
Honourable Minister from achieving any meaningful project for the Niger Delta people in his tenure”.
Samson and Afigo pledged the association’s support for Akpabio over”his tenacity to ensure that the right things are done for the benefit of the Niger Delta people in particular and Nigerians in general”.
