Godstine Okere, a 42-year-old businessman, was, on Thursday, ordered by a Lagos State Magistrate’s court, sitting at Ikeja, to be remanded in the Kirikiri Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling three minors.
The suspect, who was said to have defiled two minors in his Ojodu Berger, Lagos residence on August 2, 2020, may face life imprisonment, if eventually found guilty.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Magistrate M.E. Kubeinje refused to take the plea of Okere, but instead ordered that his case file should be duplicated and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.
The police charged Okere, who resides at Ojodu Berger, Lagos, with one count of defilement, just as the trial judge adjourned the case until August 28 for mention
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, ASP Bisi Ogunleye, told the court that Okere committed the offence on August 2 at his residence, alleging that the suspect defiled two girls aged 13 and a 15-year-old.
The prosecution said the offence the provisions of Section 7 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, a section that attracts life imprisonment.
