The Yoruba World Council (YWC), on Saturday, announced the dissolution of its 16-member Interim Executive Committee with immediate effect and setting up of a four-man support committee in its stead.

The dissolution of the committee, as contained in a communique issued at the end of its meeting, held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Saturday, was hinged on the need to upgrade the group.

However, Leader of YWC, Professor ‘Banji Akintoye, insisted that there was no division in the group, declaring that it was devoid of any conflict or crisis.

He admitted that the YWC had experienced some structural challenges, which he said arose from the fact it grew so fast and wide and very soon, assuring that the challenged were been tackled with confidence.

The group said, in the communique, that it took into cognizance its fast widening expansion and its involvement in many activities, hence it became imperative to upgrade its organisation.

It was therefore resolved that: the Interim Executive Committee, consisting of 16-member secretaries and directors, stand dissolved immediately and that a 4-man Support Committee, to work with the President General and Leader, pending when a convention would be held to elect substantive officers, be set up immediately.

The group, in the communique signed by Princess Tanimowo Okusaga, assured the Yoruba race that “YWC is one and not in conflict.

“Neither is YWC in any crisis and it is functioning smoothly and has great confidence in its leader, Professor ‘Banji Akintoye.

“We are also grateful to all our leaders, officers and youths who have worked assiduously with the Leader and President General to keep the organisation strong and achievement-oriented.”

Attraction of enormous numbers of highly skilled, resourceful and influential Yoruba persons at home and abroad. Some as members, but most are ready to assist YWC in various ways across board.

Others in attendance at the meeting were Akin Adejuwon, Ariyike Obet, Nureen Soludero, Bunmi Abidogun, Kunle Adesokan, Muda Dapo Ogunsola, Chief Aduranigba, Chief Imam Yoruba of Ilorin and Iyanda Wasiu Abiodun.
