President of Centre for Change and Women Arise, Dr Joe Okei-Odumakin, has said the Federal Government is insensitive to the Plights of Nigerians and called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop inflicting more hardship on the people.

The human rights activist, said this in a release issued on Sunday, tagged “No To Further Hardship”, adding that the president should stop taking the patience of the people for granted.

She said this in her condemnation of the government over the recent hike in the prices of petroleum products and electricity tariff.

Okei-Odumakin described the President Buhari-led Federal Government as an uncaring one for choosing to increase the cost of the two essentials at a period when Nigerians are yet to overcome the hardship imposed on them by the COVID-19 pandemic.

She noted that the present administration, by its recent decision, had clearly demonstrated that it only made sweet but empty promises to Nigerians in the build up to the 2019 general election.

“The recent hike in the prices of fuel products and electricity tariff are woeful combination of hardship from a goverment that was making sweet promises to the people over a year ago.

“To choose a moment when governments around the world are looking for ways to make life bearable for their peoples in the midst of coronavirus cannot be an attitude reflective of a caring government.

“These steps are not acceptable and should not be accepted. Nigerians are encouraged to rediscover themselves and say clear no to these measures.

“While the Buhari government should have taken the respite offered by the patience of the people as golden opportunity to fulfill its election promises of a better life for Nigerians, it should not take it as liberty to continue to inflict further hardship on the people,” she said.
