The crisis rocking the Ekiti State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) took a turn for the worse as it has announced the indefinite suspension of Senator Femi Ojudu, Honourable Oyetunde Ojo, the son-in-law of Senator Bola Tinubu and nine others.
Other Ekiti APC members affected by the suspension order included Honourable Femi Adeleye, Chief Akin Akomolafe (AKOG), Akogun Bunmi Ogunleye, Omooba Bamigboye Adegoroye, Dr Woke Oluyede, Mr Olusoga Owoeye, Mr Dele Afolabi and Barrister Toyin Oluwasola.
Reacting, however, Senator Ojudu described his suspension as a charade and laughable, stating that he and the other 10 suspended APC members should rather be the ones to suspend the Ekiti APC SEC for what he called their anti-party activities.
He told PeesReporters that the leadership of the party in the state erred and that they are just piling illegality upon illegality, adding that the issue would be resolved in court.
The indefinite suspension was contained in a letter dated 23September, 2020, titled “Indefinite Suspension Of Some Members of Ekiti State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and signed by the state publicity secretary, Honourable Ade Ajayi.
As stated in the letter, the APC members were suspended in accordance with the recommendations of an Investigative/Disciplinary Committee which found them guilty of alleged disobedience of the directive of the APC national leadership as it relates to legal actions.
“The State Executive Committee (SEC) of the Ekiti State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has approved the indefinite suspension of the following members from the party with immediate effect from today, 23 September, 2020.
“The suspension is based on the recommendation of the Investigative/Disciplinary Committee inaugurated by the SEC to investigate the disobedience of certain members to the [APC] National Executive Committee of 25 April, 2020.
“The APC NEC directed members of the party not to institute any court action and to withdraw existing cases in court,” the letter stated.
It further stated that the decision of the Ekiti APC SEC to suspend the affected members has been communicated to the Caretaker/Extra-ordinary Planning Convention Committee of the party.
Senator Ojudu however dismissed the suspension as he said: “What they did with their purported indefinite suspension, yesterday (Wednesday) of myself and 20 others is nothing but pure illegality.
“It is a charade. Laughable! We should be the one suspending them for their anti-party activity in the Edo election. They are piling illegality upon illegality.
“Only the ward can discipline a member by the provision of our constitution [APC Constitution]. They tried it in the Ward they failed. We went to court. The case is still in court. We shall meet in court.”
