The Erelu Oodua of Aye Kingdom and Irawo Oni of Yorubaland, Erelu Tinuade Onaneye, has blamed the Nigerian government at all levels for the systemic collapse of national values and security across the country, declaring that its citizens have been sold into second slavery.

This was as the highly-revered international cultural icon said the traditional institution and rulers should be held responsible for the dying cultural values and norms across the country.

Onaneye, in a statement from her basein Texas, the United States of America (USA), berated the leadership for the failures and rising ugly incidents of insecurity, hunger, starvation and diseases in the country.

In the statement, signed by her media aide, Saint-Olawale Jimoh, she lamented the negative shapes that events are taking and wonder if one can still genuinely refer to Nigeria as his or her home country.

“No right-thinking Nigerian, anywhere in the world, will be comfortable hearing those horrible stories and happening from Nigeria. Take a look at the recent massacre of about 110 rice farmers in Borno or the never-ending killings of innocent Nigerians in Southern Kaduna.

“The economy is collapsing and we are sliding back into recession the second time. A dollar now goes for about N510, judging by the current exchange rate.

“What about the outrageous amount of money being bandied about and stolen from the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)? In the midst of all these, kidnapping and raping hasn’t stopped, yet we have government at all levels.

“Regrettably, our traditional rulers, who are supposed to call these politicians and government to order, are shying away from the truth because of what they will eat. Today they (the traditional rulers) all equally bearing the brunt of their inaction and negligence.

“In Odigbo, Ondo State, the Olori and two grown up daughters of the traditional ruler were abducted and abuse by herdsmen. Around same time, another highly respected monarch, the Olufon of Ifon, was brutally shot and killed by those suspected to be hoodlums or kidnappers.

“The citizens and residents of Nigeria are no more safe. All these call for sobber reflections,” she said.

Erelu Tinuade also mentioned the high rate of unemployment in Nigeria and challenged the 36 state hovernors to publicly declare how many jobs they have created since assuming office.

Accusing government at all levels of merely paying lips service to employment generation, she opined that there are no more office job for graduates, except factory works owned by Chinese and Indian employers

“These wicked Chinese and Indian employers enslave our youths for peanuts that they call salaries and you dare not challenge them because they have the support of our government who have sold our people into another second slavery,” she added.

Erelu Tinuade, however, called on all Nigerians back at home to get ready for another national protest “to reclaim our land and hold our leaders accontable for all the negligence and recklessness.”

She added that such a protest would be the only way to restore sanity into the country and the national economy.
