Unless something is urgently done to save the soul of the Akwa Ibom State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party and its genuine and committed members might be working in vain for the success of the party in the forth coming elections in 2023.
Sources recently hinted of the clandestine moves by some stake holders in the party who are seriously working in tandem with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party(PDP) in the state to ensure the defeat of the party in the 2023 elections.
It was also gathered that key federal appointees in the state are in bed with the PDP-led government to ensure that the governor’s prefered candidate is given easy access into the Hill top Mansion in 2023, through the disqualification of its elected candidates in the court.
The ongoing legal challenges within the APC are said to be part of the grand design to cripple the candidates of the party at all levels, thus giving the ruling party in the state a smooth sail in the forth coming elections.
Key members of the APC in the state with federal appointments were recently sighted in Lagos State with some key officers of the PDP-led government in the state, specifically in Ikoyi, strategizing on how to frustrate the APC and its candidates in Akwa Ibom State out of contention for any elective office in the state.
It was also gathered that most of the legal challenges being faced by duly elected candidates of the party were being sponsored and spearheaded by key federal government appointees from the state.
When contacted, a major stakeholder of the party from Oruk Anam Local Government Area of the state, Obong Bassey Ekanem Ukpe, called on the national leadership of the party to call these people( who are PDP supporters in the night and APC ‘stakeholders’ in the morning), to order for anti party activities.
According to him,” the action of these federal appointees is anti party no matter the angle you view it from. They are in bed with the opposition in the state to frustrate the genuine and committed efforts of most of us who are working day and night for the acceptance and success of the party in the state.”
“I will appeal to the leadership of the party to call these people to order and tell them to stop using the money they made or are making through the appointments given them by the party to work against the success of the party in 2023.
” For the first time in the history of the APC, the state gave the party over 30 percent of total votes cast in 2019. The party after that unprecedented feat, gave us so much in terms of appointments and projects, yet they want the party to die.”
