Akpabio Pleads Return Tickets For APC National Assembly Members

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio has pleaded with the leadership of his Party, All Progressives Congress(APC), to grant return tickets to his colleagues in the National Assembly who won their primary elections.

Akpabio made the plea in Abuja on Wednesday at the inauguration of the APC National Campaign Council for the Ekiti State Governorship election.

Akpabio co-chair the Campaign Council with Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani. The council was inaugurated by the National Chairman of APC, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.

Speaking at the event, Akpabio pleaded with Professor Yilwatda and his team in the party’s National Working Committee to ensure that his colleagues at the National Assembly, some of who he said were already apprehensive, were carried along while deciding the final outcome of the just concluded party primaries.

Akpabio said: “National Chairman, when the National Working Committee meets, and bring out the final list, ensure that you carry all the National Assembly members along.

“As for the Governors, the state Assemblies will be working with you, you have absolute right to chose anybody you want. And then for the President of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he also has a right to make input but where anybody has lost election, please don’t expect me, as chairman of the National Assembly, to come and plead with you to put the person. It simply means that the person has lost.

“So I want to congratulate those who won the primaries and plead with my colleagues, both in the Senate and House of Representatives, that the Senate President, as Chairman of the National Assembly, is saying that you should have done your home work well before going for the primary. That is what I’m saying.

“So when the party brings out the list, we shall endorse it. May God Almighty grants us victory in Ekiti State and grant us victory in 2027.”

Akpabio said his presence at the inauguration event was a “total endorsement” of Governor Biodun Oyebanji for a second term as governor of Ekiti State.

“Left to us in the National Assembly, we would have told the party to leave the entire election to us. We are very proud of his achievements. We are very proud of his humility and we are certain of his victory in the election coming on 20th June, 2026,” he said.

Speaking earlier, the APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe said his party was well prepared for the Ekiti Governorship poll, boasting that his party had the number and the strength.
