In support of the “Every Home A Garden Initiative” of Nigeria’s First Lady, Her Excellency, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the President of the Senate, Her Excellency, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, on Wednesday, led some students of Saint John Paul II College Uyo, on a farming expedition in the state.
The excursion focused on the production of garri, which offered the students, a first hand experience in agricultural practice.
As other Nigerians were celebrating the May Ist International Workers Day holiday in their homes, these students were being walked through the various stages involved in the processing of Cassava into garri.
The students were given front row experience, as many, who were first-time farmers, learnt a lot while others added to what they had already known
At the end, the students were able to hold the final product; garri in their hands, as the excursion climaxed on a very rewarding note.
The “Every Home A Garden”, under the Renewed Hope Initiative of the First Lady of Nigeria, stands out as a laudable approach to the promotion of food- sufficiency in the country.
