IBOM SPECIALIST HOSPITAL ANNIVERSARY :  SALUTE TO UNCOMMON VISION

On May 26, 2015, the then Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio commissioned the Ibom Specialist Hospital amidst pomp and pageantry.

The Ibom Specialist Hospital is one of the signature and legacy projects of the administration of Godswill Akpabio in Akwa Ibom State.

The multi-specialty hospital is a five-storey edifice with an underground block that connects to the administrative block and the mortuary. It has state-of-the-arts facilities described as the best in West Africa. It has about 380 suites and many operating wards. It also has 640 CT Scaners, digital mammography, endoscopy surgery, highly sophisticated intensive care units and medical gas plants with fully automated laboratories.

The hospital has carried out open heart and brain surgeries. It came to the rescue of many people who could not be flown abroad during the Reigners Bible Church collapse. Today it is the centre for treatment of coronavirus cases in Akwa Ibom State.

The former Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole was so stunned by the facilities he saw at the hospital that he declared that with the hospital, medical tourism could be a thing of the past in Nigeria.

According to Prof Adewole, “Visiting the hospital complex today is an eye opener. There is no such complex like this anywhere in Nigeria. With this facility, no Nigerian will be allowed to go abroad for treatment,” he said.

Today, as we mark the anniversary of the commissioning of this hospital, we salute the vision of Chief Godswill Akpabio and his love for the people of Akwa Ibom State.
