A Niger Delta group, Niger Delta Mandate for Development ( NDMD), has taken a swipe at the attitudes of its representatives in the National Assembly towards the welfare and development of the zone, calling on them to vacate their seats for ineffective representation or they would be forced to occupy the NASS.
The group stated this in a statement, signed by Comrade Mukaila Adeoye and Prince Piriye James, President and General Secretary, respectively and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Friday.
The group frowned at the non-challant dispositions of its representatives in both Chambers of the NASS on the non passage of the 2020 Budget of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), four months to the end of the year.
” As a body, advocating for the development of the Niger Delta region, we are highly disappointed in the kind of representations we are witnessing in the NASS. The 2020 Budget of the NDDC has not been passed, denying the region of the much needed development, yet, our representatives are comfortable on their seats.”, the statement said.
The group noted that ” their non challant attitudes to what happens in the region and the development of the people is enough to pass vote of no confidence in all of them, adding, it is sad and embarrassing to us all that, while our representatives looked the other way as if all is well with their region and people, President Mohamadu Buhari, is showing more than a passing interest in the development and progress of the area and its people.
“The president, without any prompting, recently approved the release of funds from his office for the conduct of the forensic audit, while our representatives looked away.
“We, therefore, call on them to vacate their seats or we would be forced to occupy the NASS to remind them of their responsibility as our representatives”
