PATRICK UMOH: A PERFECT FIT FOR LEGISLATIVE DUTIES

Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency comprising to wit: Ikot-Ekpene, Essien-Udim and Obot Akara local government areas would soon clinch an enviable place in the Nation’s political map if the plan to send Dr Patrick Umoh to the Federal House of Representatives is consummated without hinderance as it currently appears. The 40 year Doctor of Laws who is a record breaker of many counts shall certainly do exploits in the 360 members’ chamber that would give him a niche and make his people proud.

Dr Patrick Umoh recently won the APC ticket to fly the flag of the House of Representatives candidacy for Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency. Since his procurement of the ticket, many people in the federal constituency see it as a fait accompli. They adduce factors which give him the edge above others and iterate that the said factors stand him in very good stead. Idongesit Usen from Essien Udim, a young graduate with interest in political developments in his area, the State and indeed the Nation described Patrick Umoh as a square peg in a square hole. He said that it would be the first time the federal constituency would be sending such an accomplished academic to the Green Chamber. He charged the people of the federal constituency to see his coming as divine and a blessing which they must take full advantage of.

It was not only Usen that had such glamorous painting of Umoh. Etido Essien of Ikot Ekpene who resides in Ikot Ekpene and plays active role in the political processes of the area had this to say of Patrick Umoh: “He is young, humble, visionary and passionate about change that would bring the greater good to the greatest number. My many interactions with him have confirmed these deductions. Therefore, I and my household would stand by him”, Essien concluded. If Essien’s impression is considered as profound, Michael Akpan of Obot Akara can be said to be both philosophical and emotional. “God abhors injustice. Aside, the only constant and recurring decimal in life is change. We have had a case of using one man and one party for too long. It is time to make a change. It is not only one mother that knows how to cook soup. Let us look elsewhere”, Akpan stated. Speaking further, he said that there is not much to point to in the various phases of representation of Umoh’s opponent, stating that it is time to yield the space for another person. He lauded Patrick Umoh for acquiring such education that makes him outstanding and the best hand among others in legislative representation.

Apart from the flurry of kind words and endorsements for Umoh, it is pertinent to add that the federal constituency he is seeking to represent is also that of the immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs and and a two term governor of Akwa Ibom State who wrought a revolutionary development agenda that impacted positively on all facets of life in the State including Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency. Umoh is contesting election on the platform of a party the former governor is a chieftain and shall be a senatorial candidate in the political sphere which Ikot Ekpene Federal Constituency is a part. His influence shall certainly rub off gainfully on Umoh’s ambition.

Dr Patrick Umoh was born in 1982. He attended Oueen of Apostle Seminary where he built for himself sterling moral values that have undoubtedly helped him excel in life. Upon completion, he was admitted into the University of Uyo to study Law. He came out with an award as the Best Graduating Student in 2008/2009. Driven by insatiable quest for knowledge, he enrolled for a Master Degree in the same field and came out in flying colours. Of course, the University not willing to triffle with this intellectual endowment offered him a teaching appointment. Umoh currently holds a Ph.D in Law in International Law and Jurisprudence. He is an author of books one of which is scheduled to be launched to celebrate his 40th birthday.
