NASS 2023: Ika YPP Dumps Ekon, Adopts Akpabio As Sole Candidate For Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District

The senatorial ambition of former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on Tuesday, received a major boost in Ika Local Government of the state, with the public adoption of the former Senate Minority Leader, by the local government chapter of the Young Peoples’ Party(YPP) as its sole candidate.

Speaking at the ward to ward tour of the local government area by the All Progressives Congress (APC) Senatorial candidate for Akwa Ibom North West District, Senator Godswill Akpabio and the party’s governorship candidate, Obong Akan Udofia, a chieftain of the party, Mr Ubong Uwak, who attended the event with hundreds of YPP members publicly endorsed the candidacy of Senator Akpabio, during the February 25th National Assembly election.

According to the party chieftain, ” we are here today to publicly identify and declare our unflinching support for the ambition of our leader, who did a lot for us when he was the state governor. We have all resolved as a party, that we know no other candidate for the Senate in this district but Senator Akpabio and come February 25th, we will cast our votes for him.”

They noted that, “Senator Akpabio’s support and endorsement has nothing to do with party politics. He is just the best and we have no apologies for standing behind him because he is the perfect voice at the NASS at this moment for our district.”

Addressing the mammoth crowd of party members and supporters in Ika, Senator Akpabio thanked the people of the area for acting as the shield for the entire state against external aggression from neighbouring states, but regretted the total neglect of the area in the provision good road network, empowerment of the teeming youths.

He also spoke on how he was told to run for the Senate in 2015 and how he compensated the people of Abak with the position of the Deputy Governor for Eight years, saying, ” in 2015 the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District approached me that I should contest for the Senate in appreciation of my scintillating performance as the state governor.

“When I accepted their offer, I said Abak must not be left without any significant office post 2015. I then gave Abak the office of the deputy governor for eight years now. I don’t tell lies whenever I promise, I make sure I fulfill same”, he declared.

Akpabio also assured the people of Ika of his resolve to ensure that all their immediate needs, such as good road network, security, water and empowerment of the unemployed youths and women are immediately addressed through his office as their Senator.
