INEC ABANDONS
TRIBUNAL CASES IN
AKWA IBOM STATE

By Ubong George
Faced with its inability and outright failure to defend the results it released during the National and State Assembly Elections in Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), may have abandoned its defence of the results at the Tribunal.
Tribunal sources informed peesreporters.com that at the resumed sitting of the Tribunal on Monday,  Counsels to the INEC were conspicuously absent from the sitting with no verbal or written permission.
According to our source, ” when petitions by Hon Emmmanuel Ekon (APC) Vs Hon Aniekan Umanah(PDP),  Hon Idongesit Ntekpre(PDP) Vs Mrs Inimfon Aniekan(APC) were called for hearing by the Tribunal Chairman, all parties were represented by their counsels while none appeared for the 3rd defendant; INEC”.
Surprisingly, in the last sitting of the Tribunal, INEC counsels fought profusely to discredit the Certified True Copies of documents and polling units results obtained from the INEC legal department with official receipts of the Electoral Commission.
The unexpected absence of INEC counsels is largely seen as a tactical withdrawal of the Electoral Umpire, whose electoral woes as a biased and compromised umpire are daily being compounded with heartbreaking revelations by witnesses of the APC on how it rigged out APC candidates during the election through unauthorised and illegal cancellation of results at INEC headquarters in Uyo.
