RRS Nabs 3 Suspected

UBER Snatching

Robbers, Recovers 2

Guns and 7 cartridges

The operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) have arrested three suspected robbers who lured a UBER driver into the bush, strangulated him and made away with his Toyota Camry, 2006 model, just as it recovered 2 locally made guns and seven live cartridges from another set of suspected robbers on Eko Bridge.

The suspected UBER car hijackers were arrested on early Thursday morning in Lekki, Lagos when the suspects were on their way to hand over the snatched car to a buyer.

Some RRS operatives had in few hours to the arrest, prevented six robbers from accessing the Lagos Island after it chased a convoy of three motorcycle riders and recovered two loaded and cocked guns from the suspects.

Sources said the 6 suspected robbers were on motorcycles riding against the traffic on Eko bridge when they sighted RRS patrol vehicle approaching. Trying to detour, the parcel containing the loaded and cocked guns fell just as they were speeding away. The robbers escaped while the officers were retrieving the guns.

The suspected UBER robbers, Daniel Alagor (28), Samuel Effiong (25) and three other suspects, still at large, had on Wednesday night requested for UBER through Alagor’s phone line.

Supported by one Blessing (still at large), Alagor told the UBER driver, Ekwomi Charles, to take the duo to Abijo GRA from Jakande Estate, Lekki at around 11:00 p.m.

Almost mid – way into the trip, Blessing, according to Alagor, the mastermind of the car snatching plan, told the driver they were going to a birthday party in Shoprite, Sangotedo, and that they were going to pick two of their colleagues up in Abijo GRA, Ajah.

Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) in a gestapo style action invaded the homes of Residents in Victory Park Estate while most residents were at their places of work leaving their young families exposed to the invasion of over 30 armed police men and over fifty thugs claiming to be executing a High Court Judgement of 2017 against Knight Rook, Grant Properties and the Awosedo’s (Promoters of Victory Park Estate).   According to eyewitness who craved anonymity “the Action was carefully planned by the AMCON and its Receiver Manager, Mr. Lanre Olaoluwa to take place at a time that most Home Owners would be at their places of work”. Homeowners had to rush back to the Estate when they received a distress call from vulnerable members of their families left at home.   A traumatized resident who also witness the AMCON rampage lamented that “One of the families with children between the ages of 3 and below were forced out of their homes with little or no time to pick any personal effects under heavy downpour and very heavy armed presence”. He decried such inhumane treatment of hapless victims of high handedness and warned against a reoccurrence.   AMCON Obtained a Judgement against the Promoters of the Estate and seeks to attach the lands and property in the Estate to the Judgement debt without taking into consideration existing encumbrances which are lands owned by Individuals and families who purchased their land, built their homes and have been living in the Estate without any notice at the time of purchase of their land of any encumbrances on the land. No Registered Mortgage and no Caveat at the Lands Registry.   The various Banks that handed over the debt of the promoters to AMCON, knew that the Promoters were selling the lands to innocent hard working Nigerians who took loans to purchase land in a supposed secured Site and Service Estate having done their due diligence at the land registry.   The Promoters and the Banks are parties to the fraud against innocent Nigerians and now AMCON has degenerated to an Omonile by taking over homes of families and sending mothers and children out of their homes under very heavy armed presence and down pour.   AMCON is a supposed Agency of Government and must not be seen to exploit the vulnerability of families that genuinely purchased land and built their homes in their Country only to be evacuated from their homes in a gestapo manner. AMCON Act provides that AMCON and its Receiver Manager shall take over Assets subject to existing encumbrances. The Judgement against the Asset of the promoters should ideally not extend to what no longer belongs to the Promoters. “You cannot give what you don’t have”.   Families in Victory Park now live in fear and horror not knowing which family will be next to be thrown out of their homes. A Government should not through its Agency treat its citizens like outcasts. The families are vulnerable, AMCON has the instrument of State, the Courts and the Police and now the self help thugs. “Who do the Citizens, the over 300 young families in Victory Park; Who do they have”.   While the Families are seeking legal help, AMCON as a Government Agency is enjoined to immediately call to Order its Receiver Manager, Mr Lanre Olaoluwa who happens to be a legal practitioner to desist from the harassment and intimidation of families with the use of armed thugs and heavily armed police men.

The UBER driver in his statement to the police stated, “I agreed to pick their friends and drop them at the venue of the party as we were already in Abijo GRA. I noticed that their friends were not at the bus stop.

They called their friends and we agreed I move into the Estate to meet them on their way. I drove about 100 meters and I didn’t encounter them. I insisted I was going no further”.

He continued, “they eventually came and immediately they entered the car, they tired a rope around my neck from the back. Then, all of them started punching me till I passed out.

Thinking that I was dead, they took me into the bush and dropped my body near an uncompleted building. They left beside me a knife after tying me. Thank God, I woke up later. I reported at the closest police station and eventually, I learnt RRS men have arrested them.

The suspects, according to sources, after presumably killing the UBER driver left one of them in Abijo GRA while three of them Alagor, Blessing and another suspect, whose identity police are working on, drove the car to Shoprite, Ijeshatedo to pick Samuel Effiong, who already negotiated with a buyer based in Fashola Estate, Lekki.

According to Effiong, “Blessing some time ago told me that he wanted to sell a car. He called me on phone around midnight of Wednesday to take him to the person that wanted to buy the car. They picked me up at Shoprite, Sangotedo. I didn’t follow him to where they stole the vehicle.

We were close to Fashola Estate, when we ran into RRS patrol vehicle. They stopped us for a check. Blessing and his friend bolted while Alagor and I were arrested. They also arrested Emeka Okoye, alias, Tallest, who wanted to link us to the buyer.”

Police investigations to where the UBER driver’s body was deposited by the suspects led to the recovery of further evidence like a kitchen knife, ropes and fez cap, reportedly belonging to Blessing.

Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Muazu Zubairu, while applauding the two developments directed  the suspects be transferred to SCID for further investigations.
